The New Jersey Executive’s Guide to
Airport Transfers:
EWR, JFK, LGA, TEB & PHL

Five airports. One corridor. The complete guide to choosing the right airport — and getting there without the stress.

By Mourad Mekhael  ·  Golden Handle Limousine

New Jersey is the rare market served by five significant airports within driving distance — Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia, Teterboro, and Philadelphia International. For executives based in the state, the airport decision is a genuine strategic choice that affects schedule, comfort, cost, and stress level.

This guide covers what each airport offers for New Jersey-based executive travelers, how to think about the ground transportation requirement for each, and the timing realities that most corporate travelers only learn through painful experience.

Newark Liberty International — EWR

The NJ Executive’s
Home Airport.

For most New Jersey-based executives, Newark is the default choice — and for good reason. EWR sits in New Jersey, which means no tunnel or bridge crossing, shorter access routes from most of the state, and United Airlines’ major hub operations with extensive domestic and international coverage.

EWR Advantages for NJ Executives

No bridge or tunnel required — direct NJ access

United hub — best connectivity for East Coast and international routes

Closest airport for most NJ locations — 40 to 50 minutes from central NJ

PreCheck and Clear available — security efficiency for frequent travelers

Straightforward ground transfer — most professional drivers know it well

Best for: Most NJ executives. Domestic East Coast routes, United international flights, and any client where ground transfer simplicity is a priority.

New York Metro Airports

JFK and LaGuardia —
When the Route Requires It.

JFK International Airport

JFK is the gateway for international carriers and specific airline preferences that do not operate through EWR. The JFK transfer from New Jersey adds 30 to 45 minutes over EWR, plus a bridge or tunnel crossing that introduces traffic variability.

Routing Options

Goethals Bridge via Staten Island

Holland Tunnel via Lower Manhattan

Route selected fresh per trip — real-time conditions

Best for: Delta international T4, British Airways T7, American T8, Emirates, Etihad.

LaGuardia Airport — LGA

LaGuardia is the preferred airport for East Coast business routes — Boston, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami. For NJ executives flying these routes, LGA’s domestic focus and shorter security lines make it the right choice despite longer ground transfer time.

Three Route Options From NJ

Lincoln Tunnel — Midtown approach, fastest off-peak

George Washington Bridge / Harlem River Drive — northern

Holland Tunnel / FDR Drive — lower Manhattan approach

Best for: Delta and American domestic East Coast routes.

Teterboro Airport Private Aviation — Executive Ground Transportation NJ

Teterboro Airport — TEB

Private Aviation.
A Different Standard Entirely.

Teterboro is not a commercial airport. It is the private aviation gateway for the New York metro area. For executives who fly private, TEB is the arrival and departure point — and the ground transportation requirement is fundamentally different from any commercial airport.

FBO coordination, tarmac-side positioning, and a discretion standard that matches private aviation expectations are non-negotiable for professional TEB ground service.

Direct FBO coordination — Signature, Atlantic Aviation

Tail number monitoring — not commercial flight tracking

Vehicle positioned at FBO reception before landing

Absolute discretion — no photography, no disclosure

Timing based on wheels-up and FBO check-in — not a clock

Best for: Private aviation clients only. No commercial alternative.

Philadelphia International — PHL

The Southern NJ
Executive’s Option.

For executives based in southern and central New Jersey — Mercer County, Burlington, Camden, and Monmouth — Philadelphia International is often closer and more accessible than Newark. PHL is American Airlines’ hub with strong domestic coverage and transatlantic routes.

Princeton / Trenton area~45 minutes
Freehold / Monmouth County~65 minutes
Cherry Hill / South NJ~25 minutes
Iselin / Woodbridge~70 minutes
Morristown / North NJ~90 minutes

Estimates under normal conditions. Actual timing calculated per booking.

Best for: Southern NJ executives, American Airlines travelers, PA corridor trips, any client where PHL is closer than EWR.

Every Time.

These are minimums under normal conditions. A professional driver adds buffer based on the specific day, time, and current conditions — not based on what the client wants to hear.
